A dist\u00e2ncia entre eixos era 114.5\u2033 (2908.3 mm).<\/p>\n<p>Os grandes motores quase nunca s\u00e3o memorizados no seu tempo. N\u00e3o importa o quanto eles s\u00e3o importantes, quando se aposentam, a empresa que os construiu geralmente quer que voc\u00ea se esque\u00e7a deles e, em vez disso, procure a \u00faltima oferta. E se eles est\u00e3o abandonando uma classe inteira de motores para sempre, como fez Packard depois de 1912, quando foram para uma linha de seis cilindros, eles gostam de fingir que o passado nunca aconteceu.<\/p>\n<p>No ano anterior, o Modelo 30 da Packard era o topo da sua gama de produtos estelares, mas entre 1909 e 1912, todos os tipos de empresas de autom\u00f3veis estavam a mudar as suas ofertas para vender carros mais caros, potentes e luxuosos. Assim, em 1912, o novo Packard Six de 8603 cm3, de 5.000 d\u00f3lares, juntou-se ao Modelo 30 no cat\u00e1logo, e rapidamente o superou em vendas. Um modelo novo pequeno 38-6 substituiu os 30 inteiros no ano seguinte.<\/p>\n<p>O Model 30 touring, como l\u00edder de vendas durante v\u00e1rios anos, ainda era o que o pessoal da Packard tinha em mente quando pensava na marca. Assim, as vendas ainda eram fortes em 1912, mas, \u00e0 semelhan\u00e7a dos modelos de sa\u00edda actuais, uma grande parte delas proveio das vendas de frotas. Apesar de ter come\u00e7ado em $4.200, muitas vezes o pre\u00e7o de quase todos os outros carros de quatro cilindros, a pot\u00eancia e confiabilidade do grande Packard o tornaram atraente para aplica\u00e7\u00f5es pesadas, como ambul\u00e2ncias e carros da pol\u00edcia.<\/p>\n<p>Entre 1906 e 1912, a Packard construiu 11.718 modelos de quatro cilindros, quase tr\u00eas quartos dos quais modelo 30. Nos \u00faltimos cinco anos, seus pre\u00e7os permaneceram os mesmos, \u00e0 medida que o carro foi ficando cada vez melhor, com n\u00edveis crescentes de luxo e equipamentos de s\u00e9rie. Ao concentrar quase toda a sua aten\u00e7\u00e3o num \u00fanico modelo (havia um irm\u00e3o mais novo, o Modelo 18), a Packard obteve um forte lucro e fez dos seus carros uma compra cada vez melhor. Desta forma, lan\u00e7aram as bases para os anos de sucesso e para os carros extraordin\u00e1rios que viriam.<\/p>\n<p>1250 Packard do modelo 30 foram fabricados em 1912 a um pre\u00e7o de $4.200.
