\"Packard<\/a><\/p>\n

Havia 7.746 c\u00f3pias do Packard Twin Six vendidas em 1916, seu ano introdut\u00f3rio, com n\u00fameros subindo para 8.899 em 1917. Esta foi uma conquista surpreendente, considerando o pre\u00e7o inicial relativamente elevado de 2.600 d\u00f3lares que estes carros de luxo exigiram. <\/p>\n

O motor V-12 consistia de dois blocos de ferro de seis cilindros colocados em um \u00e2ngulo de 60 graus e apoiados por um c\u00e1rter de alum\u00ednio. Foi um projeto de v\u00e1lvula lateral que deslocou um total de 6948 cc e produziu 88 cavalos de pot\u00eancia. Os pist\u00f5es foram feitos de liga de alum\u00ednio leve e n\u00e3o havia lubrifica\u00e7\u00e3o de press\u00e3o total que ajudou a longevidade dos motores. <\/p>\n

O motor, a embraiagem e a caixa de velocidades eram uma unidade \u00fanica e substitu\u00edram o design anterior da Packard de ter a caixa de velocidades montada no eixo traseiro. O Packard foi um dos primeiros a usar este tipo de transmiss\u00e3o. Esta configura\u00e7\u00e3o reduziu o peso n\u00e3o suspenso do eixo traseiro, melhorou o manuseio e manuseio e proporcionou mais confiabilidade e rigidez.<\/p>\n

As melhorias tecnol\u00f3gicas continuaram em 1917 com a introdu\u00e7\u00e3o, pela Packard, de um Twin Six redesenhado com blocos de cilindros e cabe\u00e7otes de fundi\u00e7\u00e3o separados. Os pist\u00f5es de alum\u00ednio tinham agora dois an\u00e9is de compress\u00e3o e um raspador de \u00f3leo. Os coletores de admiss\u00e3o e escape tamb\u00e9m foram redesenhados. Mesmo com estas melhorias, a pot\u00eancia nominal permaneceu em 88, embora o n\u00famero de RPM nominal tenha ca\u00eddo de 3000 para 2600.<\/p>\n
