L&#8217;empattement \u00e9tait de 114,5\u2033 (2908,3 mm).<\/p>\n<p>Les gros moteurs ne sont presque jamais m\u00e9moris\u00e9s en leur temps. Peu importe leur importance, lorsqu&rsquo;ils prennent leur retraite, l&rsquo;entreprise qui les a cr\u00e9\u00e9s veut g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement que vous les oubliiez et que vous recherchiez plut\u00f4t la derni\u00e8re offre. Et s&rsquo;ils abandonnent \u00e0 jamais toute une cat\u00e9gorie de moteurs, comme l&rsquo;a fait Packard apr\u00e8s 1912 lorsqu&rsquo;ils sont pass\u00e9s \u00e0 une gamme de six cylindres, ils aiment faire comme si le pass\u00e9 n&rsquo;avait jamais exist\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Juste l&rsquo;ann\u00e9e pr\u00e9c\u00e9dente, le mod\u00e8le 30 de Packard \u00e9tait le sommet de leur gamme stellaire, mais entre 1909 et 1912, toutes sortes de compagnies automobiles ont chang\u00e9 leurs offres pour vendre des voitures plus ch\u00e8res, puissantes et luxueuses. Ainsi, en 1912, la nouvelle Packard Six de 8603 cm3, \u00e0 partir de 5.000 dollars, rejoint le mod\u00e8le 30 dans le catalogue, et le d\u00e9passe rapidement en ventes. L&rsquo;ann\u00e9e suivante, un nouveau petit mod\u00e8le 38-6 a remplac\u00e9 le 30 en entier.<\/p>\n<p>Le Model 30 Touring, en tant que leader des ventes pendant plusieurs ann\u00e9es, \u00e9tait encore ce que les gens de Packard avaient en t\u00eate lorsqu&rsquo;ils pensaient \u00e0 la marque. Ainsi, les ventes \u00e9taient encore fortes en 1912, mais, \u00e0 l&rsquo;instar des mod\u00e8les sortants d&rsquo;aujourd&rsquo;hui, une grande partie d&rsquo;entre elles provenaient de la vente de flottes. Malgr\u00e9 son prix de d\u00e9part de 4 200 $, plusieurs fois sup\u00e9rieur \u00e0 celui de presque toutes les autres voitures quatre cylindres, la puissance et la fiabilit\u00e9 de la Packard en ont fait une voiture attrayante pour les applications lourdes, comme les ambulances et les voitures de police.<\/p>\n<p>Entre 1906 et 1912, Packard a construit 11 718 mod\u00e8les quatre cylindres, dont pr\u00e8s des trois quarts \u00e9taient des mod\u00e8les 30. Au cours des cinq derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, leurs prix sont rest\u00e9s les m\u00eames, au fur et \u00e0 mesure que la voiture s&rsquo;am\u00e9liorait, avec des niveaux de luxe et d&rsquo;\u00e9quipement de s\u00e9rie de plus en plus \u00e9lev\u00e9s. En concentrant presque toute leur attention sur un seul mod\u00e8le (il y avait un petit fr\u00e8re, le mod\u00e8le 18), Packard a tous les deux r\u00e9alis\u00e9 un profit important, et fait de leurs voitures un achat toujours meilleur. C&rsquo;est ainsi qu&rsquo;ils ont jet\u00e9 les bases des ann\u00e9es de succ\u00e8s et des voitures extraordinaires qui allaient suivre.<\/p>\n<p>1250 Packard du mod\u00e8le 30 ont \u00e9t\u00e9 fabriqu\u00e9s en 1912 au prix de 4 200 $.
