Il s&rsquo;agit d&rsquo;une r\u00e9alisation \u00e9tonnante si l&rsquo;on consid\u00e8re le prix de d\u00e9part relativement \u00e9lev\u00e9 de 2 600 $ exig\u00e9 par ces voitures de luxe. <\/p>\n<p>Le moteur V-12 se composait de deux blocs de fer \u00e0 six cylindres plac\u00e9s \u00e0 un angle de 60 degr\u00e9s et soutenus par un carter en aluminium. Il s&rsquo;agissait d&rsquo;une conception de soupape lat\u00e9rale qui a d\u00e9plac\u00e9 un total de 6948 cm3 et produit 88 chevaux-vapeur. Les pistons \u00e9taient faits d&rsquo;un alliage d&rsquo;aluminium l\u00e9ger et il y avait une lubrification \u00e0 pleine pression qui a contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 la long\u00e9vit\u00e9 des moteurs. <\/p>\n<p>Le moteur, l&#8217;embrayage et la bo\u00eete de vitesses \u00e9taient une seule unit\u00e9 et ont remplac\u00e9 la conception ant\u00e9rieure de Packard qui consistait \u00e0 monter la bo\u00eete-pont sur l&rsquo;essieu arri\u00e8re. Packard a \u00e9t\u00e9 l&rsquo;un des premiers \u00e0 utiliser ce type de transmission. Cette configuration a permis de r\u00e9duire le poids non suspendu de l&rsquo;essieu arri\u00e8re, d&rsquo;am\u00e9liorer la tenue de route et la maniabilit\u00e9, et d&rsquo;accro\u00eetre la fiabilit\u00e9 et la rigidit\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Les am\u00e9liorations technologiques se sont poursuivies en 1917 avec l&rsquo;introduction par Packard d&rsquo;un Twin Six redessin\u00e9 avec des blocs cylindres et des t\u00eates de coul\u00e9e s\u00e9par\u00e9s. Les pistons en aluminium avaient maintenant deux segments de compression et un racleur \u00e0 huile. Les collecteurs d&rsquo;admission et d&rsquo;\u00e9chappement ont \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 redessin\u00e9s.
